METRO UPLIFT

PORT AUTHORITY OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY

COLORS WOVEN INTO STRENGTH

A “variable position” mural that allows the stewards to reorganize the patterns & composition of the Artwork. Covering over 300 4’x8’ panels, totaling almost 10,000 sq ft throughout two of Port Authority’s Jersey City Metro Stations; Newport and Exchange Place respectively in the interior and exterior of the stations as Skanka Construction updated the stations flooding barriers and accessibility throughout.

A playful variation of multi-colored hands represent the power of unity, and the graphic patterns are inspired by the rich cultural fabric that are interwoven into the strong diverse communities that are part of the city. Nature alludes to our connection to each other, mother earth and the cosmos, drawing inspiration for our collective future. Herons throughout connect us to the native fauna of the waterfront region and Muhheakunnuck/Shutemac/Mahicanituk river. These metro stations transformed into a site of joy, intrigue, and beautification; Turning a typical mundane construction site into an uplifting experience.
